Seven-year-old Mrityika Meru Kotoky, a Class II student of Kendriya Vidyalaya–1, Tezpur, secured a bronze medal while representing India at the 6th Yoga Asana World Cup 2025. Daughter of teacher Preeti Saikia and journalist Meru Mithu Kotoky, the young participant competed in the Sub-Junior Traditional Yoga category. Trained for nearly a year under Tezpur-based yoga instructor Mamita Gogoi, Mrityika impressed judges at a tournament that saw athletes from Japan, Iran, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Finland, Russia and several other countries.

Her achievement has been widely celebrated across Tezpur and the state. Local MLA Prithviraj Rabha, Jiten Barthakur of the Sonitpur District Sports Association, BJP Sonitpur District president Madhusmita Hazarika Deka, Sonitpur Press Club, and Sonitpur Journalists’ Union congratulated the young medallist. Mrityika is also the granddaughter of eminent Tezpur educationist Atul Kotoky.

In the same championship, Tezpur’s noted yoga athlete Mamu Bayan bagged two silver medals, adding further glory to the town. Recently certified as an international yoga referee, Bayan clinched one silver in the Traditional Yoga category and another in the Free Flow category, strengthening Tezpur’s growing reputation in competitive yoga.
