Agricultural Tool Bank inaugurated at Makumkilla

MARGHERITA, Nov 17: An Agricultural Tool Bank was inaugurated on Monday at Bhittorpowai, Makumkilla in Margherita marking a major step toward empowering the local farming community. The project has been set up with CSR support from Northeastern Coalfields, Coal India Limited (CIL) Margherita.

As part of the initiative, two tractors along with a range of agricultural implements were formally handed over to farmers of Bhittorpowai Gaon Makumkilla, ensuring better access to modern machinery and improved productivity during key farming operations. Speaking at the event, K. Mere, General Manager of Northeastern Coalfields CIL Margherita, emphasised the company’s commitment to rural development and its responsibility to uplift small and marginal farmers through meaningful CSR initiatives.

Gitul Chowluk from the Department of Agriculture, Tinsukia appreciated the ongoing efforts of Patkai Green FPC, a NABARD-promoted Farmer Producer Organisation and assured continued departmental support in strengthening farmer-led community institutions.

Trinayan Gogoi, Secretary of WE FOR YOU, reaffirmed the organisation’s mission to enhance rural livelihoods by ensuring farmers receive essential resources, training and assistance for sustainable agricultural growth.

Local farmers and community members welcomed the initiative and thanked CIL for its support. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, underscoring a shared commitment to improving the agricultural landscape of Bhittorpowai Makumkilla and neighbouring villages under Margherita Co-District.
