GUWAHATI, Nov 23: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway apprehended six persons involved in theft of passengers’ belongings during joint checks conducted between 19 and 20 November. Valuables worth about RS 1.65 lakh were recovered from trains and railway stations at Guwahati and Katihar. All accused were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further legal action.
On 20 November, the RPF and CPDS team at Katihar intercepted two individuals carrying two stolen mobile phones valued at around Rs 40,000. The same day, a joint RPF–CPDS operation at Guwahati railway station led to the arrest of one person and recovery of two gold rings worth approximately Rs 80,000.
A day earlier, on 19 November, the RPF (East), CPDS and GRP teams at Katihar apprehended one person and recovered a stolen mobile phone valued at about Rs 20,000.
In October 2025, the NFR RPF had arrested 19 persons for similar offences and recovered 20 mobile phones and other items worth roughly Rs 2.73 lakh. The RPF urged passengers to report any issues during travel by dialing the toll-free helpline 139.
