The event, organised by the Bayon Chuchan Chandra Bora Memorial Trust, Gohpur, was conducted as a day-long programme to honour the legacy of the distinguished bayon, educationist and devout follower of Sankari culture, Chuchan Chandra Bora.

This year’s memorial award was conferred upon 92-year-old Muhi Kanta Baruah, a retired teacher, social worker, noted bihuwa and dedicated practitioner of Sankari traditions from the Kalabari area.

Organisers said the award recognised his lifelong contributions to the preservation and promotion of the cultural and artistic heritage associated with Srimanta Sankardev.

The programme featured a discussion session on “Sankardevor Shilpa Bhabona aaru Sampratik Asomiya Samaj” (Artistic outlook of Sankardev and contemporary Assamese society), chaired by Soumitra Baruah, principal of Chhayduwar College and president of the memorial trust.
