5-day NEC beneficiaries’ training concludes at Karbi Anglong KVK

Farmers gain hands-on knowledge in modern agriculture, animal husbandry and oilseed cultivation

DIPHU, Dec 5: A five-day training programme was successfully organised at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Karbi Anglong, to empower beneficiaries of North Eastern Council (NEC) schemes from Sarmen Hanse Village with advanced farming techniques. The initiative was jointly conducted by the Block Development Office (BDO), Lumbajong and KVK, Karbi Anglong and saw active participation from 100 beneficiaries.

The training, held from 1 Dec to 5 Dec, focused on five critical areas: Mushroom Cultivation, Scientific Pig Farming, Scientific Fish Farming, Scientific Goat Farming and Scientific Duck Farming. Sessions were led by experienced scientists from KVK and Zonal Research Stations to ensure practical and high-quality instruction.

Mushroom cultivation training was conducted by Dr Lohit Kataki, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK and Dr Neethi Boruah, Scientist, Zonal Research Station, Diphu, covering substrate preparation, spawning, cropping and disease management using locally available resources.

Scientific animal and fish farming sessions were led by Dr Monuj Kr Doley, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Karbi Anglong, focusing on breed selection, improved housing, nutrition, health and disease management, vaccination schedules, biosecurity measures, pond management and integrated farming practices.

The programme employed a blended approach of theoretical instruction and practical demonstrations, enabling beneficiaries to gain hands-on experience and a clear understanding of the ‘dos and don’ts’ for each farming system.

In addition, an Awareness Programme on Oilseed Cultivation was conducted to sensitise beneficiaries about the potential of oilseeds as a profitable component of diversified farming, promoting local self-sufficiency.
