GUWAHATI, Dec 25: The India–Japan Semiconductor Forum, held on the sidelines of SEMICON Japan 2025, marked a key milestone in strengthening bilateral cooperation between India and Japan in building resilient, scalable and globally competitive semiconductor value chains.
The forum brought together policymakers, global industry leaders and ecosystem stakeholders, reflecting the growing strategic trust between the two technology-driven economies and its translation into concrete industry participation and long-term collaboration across the semiconductor ecosystem.
Leadership perspectives were shared by Amitesh Kumar Sinha, CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Hidemichi Shimizu from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Koichi Suzuki of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI, and Ashok Chandak, President of SEMI India and the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association.
Speakers underlined the importance of close policy–industry alignment to develop globally competitive semiconductor capabilities.
Chandak said that combining Japan’s manufacturing and process leadership with India’s scale, talent base and policy momentum could position the partnership as a major force in the global semiconductor landscape.
Deliberations focused on semiconductor policies and incentives, human capital development, skilling, academic partnerships, fabrication and advanced packaging, OSAT capabilities, and deeper engagement among industry associations.
Emphasis was placed on joint research and development, technology transfer and clearly defined pathways to scalable manufacturing and design.
The forum saw active participation from leading Japanese companies including Tokyo Electron, Sony Semiconductor Solutions, KIOXIA Group, SCREEN Holdings, Advantest, HORIBA and Daifuku, alongside Indian firms such as Kaynes Semicon, Suchi Semicon, SignOff Semiconductors and UHP Technologies.
Participants expressed a shared commitment to convert strategic trust into execution through sustained and practical cooperation.
SEMICON Japan 2025 recorded strong global participation, hosting more than 1,200 exhibitors, over 300 experts and upwards of 125,000 visitors, reaffirming its status as a premier global platform for semiconductor innovation and collaboration.
The discussions reinforced the view that India–Japan semiconductor cooperation is not only timely but strategically significant for the future of the global value chain.
