Guwahati , Dec 29: Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on Monday morning after his scheduled Sunday night visit was delayed due to heavy fog, proving once again that even tight political itineraries must bow to the weather.
He was accorded a warm reception by senior BJP and allied leaders, including Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi, AGP MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita and AGP leader Tapan Das. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present, along with senior BJP leader Vaijayant Jay Panda, to receive the Union Home Minister at the airport.
Soon after his arrival, Shah proceeded by helicopter to Batadrava in Nagaon district, where he inaugurated the Bordowa Project and addressed a public gathering. The event marked the beginning of a packed day-long schedule blending development, culture and public outreach.
Following the Batadrava programme, the Union Home Minister flew to Sarusajai before heading to Boragaon. At around 3 pm, he visited the Swheed Smarak Kshetra, paying tribute at the memorial dedicated to martyrs.
The latter half of the day focused on infrastructure and cultural initiatives. At 3.30 pm, Shah inaugurated the newly constructed Office of the Police Commissioner, underscoring the government’s emphasis on administrative strengthening. This was followed by the inauguration of the 5,000-seat Jyoti–Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir at 4.30 pm, a major cultural venue aimed at promoting art, performance and heritage on a larger platform.
Shah was expected to address public gatherings at several locations during the visit, with party leaders projecting the programmes as both symbolic and strategic.
After completing the scheduled engagements, the Union Home Minister was set to depart for New Delhi at around 6.30 pm, concluding a brisk Assam visit where the fog delayed the arrival, but not the agenda.
