GUWAHATI, Jan 6: The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, hosted an exposure visit for IAS officer trainees of the 2025 batch as part of their Winter Study Tour.
Addressing the trainee officers, Pritam Dutta, IDAS, Director, MSDE and Director, IIE, spoke on the skill development and entrepreneurship landscape in India with special reference to the North Eastern Region.
He highlighted key policy priorities, institutional mechanisms and emerging opportunities aimed at inclusive and sustainable growth.
Kumar Padmapani Bora, IRS, Commissioner and Secretary, Tourism Department, Government of Assam, interacted with the trainees and outlined the State’s approach to skill development, entrepreneurship promotion and tourism-led initiatives.
He described tourism as a major driver of enterprise creation, stressing its role in strengthening local value chains, promoting indigenous products and services, and generating sustainable employment across the region.
PVSLN Murty, Chairman and Managing Director of NEDFi, also addressed the officers, focusing on the role of the banking and financial sector in livelihood generation.
He emphasised the importance of institutional finance, credit linkages and development finance in nurturing entrepreneurship and supporting inclusive economic growth.
During the institutional presentation and interactive discussions, various initiatives undertaken by IIE under different Government of India schemes were highlighted, showcasing the institute’s contribution to entrepreneurship promotion, skill development and livelihood generation, particularly in the North Eastern Region.
The visiting delegation comprised 10 IAS officer trainees, including three officers from the Royal Bhutan Service, who actively participated in discussions on governance-led entrepreneurship and regional development perspectives.
ASS Devan, faculty member of IIE Guwahati, was also present during the programme.
The programme was coordinated by Dr Santanu Mohan Deka, associate faculty member and nodal officer for the event at IIE Guwahati.
