MANGALDAI, Jan 6: Member of Parliament Dilip Saikia on Tuesday distributed cheques amounting to ₹20.10 lakh to 352 residents of Darrang district suffering from critical illnesses, including cancer, under the Chief Minister’s special financial assistance scheme, SUHRID.
The cheques were handed over at a ceremonial programme organised at the MP’s office in Bhebarghat.
The beneficiaries were selected from various parts of the district and are undergoing treatment for serious ailments.
Addressing the gathering, Saikia said the financial assistance would provide much-needed relief to patients and their families amid rising medical expenses.
He added that in recent years nearly 4,000 patients from the region have benefited from the SUHRID scheme, which aims to support economically weaker sections in meeting the cost of critical medical treatment.
