Nagaon/Hojai , Jan 10: With the Assam Assembly elections approaching, the race for party tickets within the ruling camp has clearly gathered pace. Amid growing speculation over new faces being fielded, Assam Minority Development Board State Vice-Chairman Rajbir Singh has formally staked his claim for candidature from either the Hojai or Lumding Assembly constituencies.
Singh, hailing from Hojai district, said the competition for tickets has intensified in both constituencies, especially after the Chief Minister hinted that the party may introduce fresh faces in most seats this time. Riding on that possibility, several aspirants have stepped forward, Singh included.
Expressing confidence, Rajbir Singh said he is hopeful of receiving the party ticket, noting that he represents the Assamese Sikh community and is entering active electoral politics for the first time. He added that he believes the party’s top leadership, including the Chief Minister, will not overlook his claim.
Singh maintained that he is fully optimistic about securing candidature from either of the two constituencies. On Thursday, he formally submitted his application to Hojai district BJP president Dilip Dhar, marking his official entry into the ticket race.
As internal competition sharpens, Hojai and Lumding are emerging as constituencies to watch, with multiple hopefuls vying for the ruling party’s nod.
