KOKRAJHAR, Jan 11: District Commissioner of Kokrajhar, Pankaj Chakravarty, on Sunday flagged off a 1,511-member Bagurumba contingent from Karigaon, Kokrajhar, for participation in the prestigious Bagurumba Dwhou 2026.
The large contingent includes 23 performers from Nepal and 51 performers from West Bengal. The participants will proceed to Guwahati to take part in rehearsals ahead of the grand cultural event scheduled to be held on January 17, 2026, which will be graced by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
To ensure smooth coordination and logistics, Additional Deputy Commissioner Himadri Sekhar Bordoloi, along with Assistant Commissioners Dhrubajyoti Das, Himangshu Kalita, Sourav Jyoti Deuri, Subham Sinha, Abhi Saha and Saroj Kr Deka, are accompanying the contingent. Medical teams, police personnel, nodal teachers and master trainers have also been deployed to ensure the safety, discipline and overall well-being of all participants.
Meanwhile, Legislative Assembly Constituency-level training for Bagurumba Dwhou 2026 was successfully concluded across all five constituencies of Kokrajhar district on Saturday, marking the culmination of extensive preparations for the mega cultural event.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Pankaj Chakravarty said that the Bagurumba contingent from Kokrajhar will join the mega Bagurumba dance presentation in Guwahati in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the region on a national platform.
