MARGHERITA, Jan 15: The first death anniversary of Singpho King Bisa Nong Singpho was solemnly observed on Thursday at the Buddha Vihar in historic Bisa Gaon under Ledo in Assam’s Tinsukia district.
Family members, relatives and members of the Singpho community gathered to pay tribute to the late leader, who had passed away at his residence in Bisa Gaon on January 15, 2025.
The observance drew people from different walks of life, reflecting the wide respect he commanded beyond his community.
Bisa Nong Singpho, revered as the chief of the Singpho community in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, was remembered for his inclusive vision and commitment to equality.
Local residents recalled that his guiding principle was to uphold equal status and dignity for all, irrespective of caste, creed, language or religion, which many described as a true reflection of Rajdharma.
“He believed in fairness and equality, and that made him respected by everyone,” said a resident of Bisa Gaon, noting that his leadership left a lasting impact on the social fabric of the region.
After his demise last year, the Assam government accorded him state honours, with officials from the General Administration Department and state protocol services overseeing his cremation on January 17, 2025, at Bisa Gaon.
To mark the anniversary, Buddhist monks from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh offered special prayers at the Bisa Gaon Buddha Vihar, seeking eternal peace for the departed soul. The solemn observance underscored the enduring legacy of the Singpho King and the deep affection he continues to inspire across the region.
