GUWAHATI, Jan 19: MakeMyTrip, India’s leading online travel company, has introduced a set of women-centric safety and assurance signals across accommodation and intercity bus bookings, using artificial intelligence, user feedback and partner data to help women travellers plan journeys with greater confidence.
The initiative is based on behavioural patterns observed on the platform, which show that women travellers tend to follow a more deliberate review process before booking.
Data indicates higher click-through rates on reviews, longer time spent on maps and street view, and deeper engagement with guest-uploaded photos prior to confirming stays.
These planning habits are reflected in booking trends as well.
Women book 50 per cent more stays at least 15 days in advance and show a 16 per cent higher preference for premium and branded properties compared to men.
This preference becomes stronger in Tier II and Tier III cities, where branded accommodations are often viewed as a signal of reliability and assurance.
On intercity bus routes, solo women travellers also display a clear preference for seating arrangements that place them next to other women rather than in mixed proximity.
When the platform detects that a woman may be planning a stay, specific safety-related cues are surfaced more prominently.
Ratings submitted by women travellers are highlighted, while AI-led summaries draw attention to aspects such as staff behaviour and location safety during the search process.
Indicators for women-specific amenities, including CCTV coverage, door viewers, door chains and full-length mirrors, are displayed more clearly.
Travellers can also use the Street View feature to visually assess access roads and the surroundings of a property before booking.
A similar approach has been extended to intercity bus bookings.
AI systems identify reviews from women-only journeys and filter feedback based on concerns such as punctuality, safety and cleanliness.
Each parameter is tagged with sentiment indicators to allow quicker evaluation.
In addition, when a woman books one side of a double berth, the adjacent berth is automatically restricted to women passengers to avoid mixed proximity, offering an added layer of reassurance during overnight or long-distance travel.
Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, said women travellers already plan their journeys carefully and evaluate stays and travel routes thoughtfully. He added that the company is using its data and
AI capabilities to simplify this planning process and help women make more informed decisions.
The system draws on two key sources: insights derived from millions of user reviews and behaviour signals analysed through AI, and structured data from nearly 97,000 accommodation properties and over 3,500 intercity bus operators covering amenities, safeguards and operational practices.
Together, these inputs are aimed at making safety and assurance more visible and accessible for women travellers across the platform.
