The programme, held at the Haflong Municipal Board Ground, saw the distribution of cheques amounting to Rs1.5 lakh each to nearly 200 sacred worship sites. These include the traditional Madaikho of the Dimasa community, Hindu temples, Naamghars of various communities, gurudwaras, churches and other indigenous faith-based institutions such as Sonongs, Boljols and Kelumkis, reflecting the district’s rich religious diversity.

The event was graced by State Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Gorlosa, along with Dima Hasao District Commissioner Munindra Nath Nagate, MAC Ngamrothang Hmar, Women Organisation president Kirang Jeme and several BJP party office-bearers. Representatives from various beneficiary committees and faith-based organisations were also present.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Nandita Gorlosa highlighted the deep religious and cultural importance of places of worship, stating that they are not only centres of faith but also pillars of social harmony and community identity. She informed that under the Assam Darshan Scheme, the Chief Minister has sanctioned Rs 3 lakh for each selected place of worship, of which Rs 1.5 lakh is being released as the first installment.

The Minister urged the managing committees to ensure that the funds are used strictly for renovation, preservation and development of the worship sites and not diverted for any other purpose.
