Guwahati, Jan 30: The Assam Traffic Police have announced a complete closure of the Chandmari Flyover in Guwahati from January 30, 2026, to facilitate construction work related to the integration of the newly built GNB Road Flyover with the existing structure. The restriction will remain in force until the completion of the project.
Officials said the decision has been taken in the interest of public safety and to ensure the smooth and timely execution of the flyover work. During the closure period, vehicular movement of all categories will be strictly prohibited on the Chandmari Flyover, and commuters have been advised to avoid the stretch and follow alternative routes to minimise congestion.

As per the traffic advisory, vehicles approaching from the Zoo Road side will be diverted towards Rajgarh Road via Apurba Sinha Path or directly through Rajgarh Road, from where commuters can proceed through South Sarania Road, G.S. Road, Dr. B. Baruah Road and GNB Road. Vehicles coming from the Chandmari side will be routed towards Bamunimaidam via M.R.D. Road and further towards Hatigarh Chariali through Railway Colony Road, or alternatively via the Noonmati–Mathgharia route.
Special traffic arrangements have also been made for public transport and goods-carrying vehicles. City buses, including electric buses and metro share taxis operating from Adabari via GNB Road and M.R.D. Road, will ply only up to Patharquarry Roundabout. Similarly, city buses coming from the Ganeshguri side towards Adabari will operate up to Zoo Road Tiniali before being diverted through Mother Teresa Road, Mathgharia Police Point and Maniram Dewan Road, continuing towards Adabari via Noonmati, Bamunimaidam and Chandmari. Metro share taxis from Noonmati will operate as shuttle services up to Chandmari Police Point during the closure period.
Authorities have directed all city buses to strictly follow lane discipline, operate on the left-most lane and avoid overtaking to prevent traffic congestion in the Chandmari area.
The decision was taken at a special Regional Transport Authority meeting held on January 29, chaired by the District Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) in consultation with all stakeholders. Officials have appealed to commuters to cooperate with the traffic arrangements in the interest of road safety and the early completion of the flyover project.
