GUWAHATI, Feb 7: The 2nd North East Social Work Conclave 2026 was successfully organised by the Indian Awaz Foundation in partnership with Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) at the KKHSOU campus in Guwahati.
The day-long event brought together academicians, development professionals, government officials, NGOs, CSR leaders and students to discuss emerging challenges and opportunities in social work in the Northeast. Md Nazim Ahmed, Founder & MD of Indian Awaz Foundation, highlighted the need for a strong professional social work ecosystem, while Prof Rajendra Prasad Das, VC of KKHSOU, emphasised universities’ role in community development.
The conclave featured two panel discussions. Panel I, moderated by Dr Mridusmita Duara, focused on career pathways in child protection, law and social justice, with panelists including Debasish Bhattacharjee, Dr Shyamal Prasad Saikia and Lakshminarayan (UNICEF). Keynote sessions were delivered by Meraj Ahmed (NEAID) and M Adil Mustak Shahr (ISDM), addressing strategic capacity building in non-profits.
Post-lunch sessions included NGO and government presentations, youth engagement activities and a special address by Dr Syed Kazi (Council for Social Development) on strengthening social development through research, policy, practice and digital technology. Panel II, moderated by Pradyut Bhattacharjee (SeSTA), focused on New-Age NGOs and CSR partnerships with participation from Assam Startup – The Nest, DXC Technology and Slice Small Finance Bank.
The conclave concluded with the Vision 2030 roadmap for building a Northeast Professional Social Work Network, institutional felicitation and networking.
