NAGAON, Feb 15: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today ceremonially distributed cheques for the first installment of financial assistance under the CM’s Atmanirbhar Assam 2.0 initiative among beneficiaries at a function held at Nehrubali Field in Nagaon.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Sarma emphasised the need for youth to channel their energy into positive endeavours, stating that they must transform themselves into ideal citizens by harnessing their inner strength.
He highlighted that government jobs are limited and it is not possible to provide employment to everyone, whereas entrepreneurship can generate job opportunities for many. He mentioned that under the initiative, 74,036 potential entrepreneurs across the state will receive financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each. A total of 7,969 beneficiaries from Nagaon, Hojai and Morigaon districts have benefited under the scheme this time.
The Chief Minister urged the youth to focus on self-employment and entrepreneurship, citing the example of the Kumar Bhaskar Barma Bridge, where most workers are locals. He stressed that hard work and dedication are essential for the survival and growth of the Assamese nation.
Dr Sarma also underlined the importance of protecting Assam’s land and resources, stating that the state’s land, markets and economy must be safeguarded. He announced plans to create employment opportunities for two lakh youth over the next five years and to reclaim five lakh bighas of land.
The event was attended by ministers and officials, including Piyush Hazarika, Keshab Mahanta and MLA Rupak Sarma. The Chief Minister also inaugurated a life-size statue of Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala and the Shradhanjali Garden at Morikolong in Nagaon town.
