ATTSA Demow demanding ST status, wage hike

DEMOW, Feb 17: The Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA), Demow Branch, along with ATTWA and local tea labourers, held a two-hour demonstration in front of the Co-District Commissioner’s office on Tuesday.

Protesters demanded Scheduled Tribe status for the tea tribes community, an increase in tea labourers’ wages and the grant of land pattas, displaying placards and shouting slogans against the BJP and the state government.

A memorandum outlining these demands was submitted to the Co-District Commissioner. ATTSA leaders Biswanath Nag (president), Amon Mirdha (secretary), Diganta Tassa, Rajkishore Bhumij and representatives of ATTWA participated in the programme.
