2 arrested in Sivasagar, pistol recovered during op

SIVASAGAR, Feb 23: Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Sivasagar Police on Monday arrested two alleged drug peddlers during an operation at ASTC Tiniali and recovered a pistol from their possession, officials said.

According to police sources, the accused were intercepted while travelling in a Fortuner vehicle (registration number DL3CBD 7208).

The arrested individuals have been identified as Pallob Saikia alias Mun, a resident of Padumoni, Japisajia under Selenghat Police Station in Jorhat district, and Bharat Saikia of Jorhat.

Police said both accused are suspected to have been involved in drug trafficking activities for a long period.

Pallob Saikia, a retired Army jawan, was also allegedly linked to an inter-state pig transportation syndicate, officials added.

During the operation, a pistol was recovered from their possession.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of their involvement and possible links with larger drug networks, police said.
