DIPHU, Feb 24: In a significant move to bridge rural craftsmanship and mainstream commerce, the seven-day “Rajyik Udyam Samagam – Swadeshi Mela” officially kicked off on Tuesday at the Diphu Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School playground.
The mela provides a strategic platform for locally produced goods from the Karbi Anglong region, facilitating their entry into broader state and national markets.
The event was inaugurated by the Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang, who performed the ribbon-cutting and interacted with local artisans while inspecting indigenous products on display.
Organised collaboratively by the Assam Small Industries Development Corporation Limited and the District Industries & Commerce Department, the fair emphasises grassroots economic growth. Executive Member Prabhat Chandra Taro encouraged women entrepreneurs to register their businesses during the mela to access long-term government support.
The inaugural ceremony witnessed a high-profile turnout, including Amarsing Tisso, Raju Tisso and senior officials from the District Industries & Commerce Department. The Swadeshi Mela will run daily through March 2, 2026, featuring handloom products, organic food items and traditional crafts unique to the Karbi Anglong hills.
