KOKRAJHAR, Feb 25: The All Assam Public Health Engineering Department Temporary Workers’ Association staged a protest at the BTC Director’s office of the Public Health Engineering Department in Kokrajhar, demanding the release of pending honorariums for Jalmitras.
Jalmitras from all five districts of the Bodoland Territorial Council participated in the protest. They have been awaiting their dues since last May. The association demanded that the pending payments be cleared before the upcoming Doul festival and the month of Ramadan.
The Kokrajhar District Committee Secretary of the association, Assam Ray had submitted a memorandum to BTC Chief Executive Member Hagrama Mohilary demanding the release of the pending honorariums. Despite this, the dues remain unpaid for the past 12–14 months. The district committee has urged Assam PHED Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah and BTC Executive Member Akhtara Begum to take immediate steps to resolve the matter.
