The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has approved the names of Terash Gowala, sitting MLA and Jogen Mohan, Cabinet Minister of Assam, as its candidates for the Rajya Sabha from Assam.
The last date for filing nominations is March 5. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on March 6, while March 9 is the deadline for withdrawal of candidatures. Citizens cutting across communities have expressed their welcome and goodwill over the opportunity for the Bodoland region to have another Rajya Sabha member from Assam in 2026. The opportunity has paved the way for three MPs from the region, including two in the Rajya Sabha and one in the Lok Sabha.
After filing the nomination, Pramod Boro, UPPL president and former CEM of BTR, stated that he filed his nomination as UPPL’s candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections. He said he is committed to strengthening the voice of BTR and Assam in Parliament and to working for peace, unity and inclusive development across the region. He also extended his gratitude and thanks to the NDA alliance partner leaders.
“I filed my nomination today as UPPL’s Rajya Sabha candidate from Assam in the presence of senior leaders of our National Democratic Alliance (NDA). I’m deeply grateful for the trust and blessings bestowed on me by the people. With renewed resolve, I remain committed to strengthening the voice of BTR and Assam in Parliament and to working for peace, unity and inclusive development across our region,” he added.
