GUWAHATI, March 8: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) conducted a series of successful operations between February 28 and March 4, 2026, aimed at ensuring passenger safety and protecting railway property.
During the period, RPF personnel apprehended several offenders, recovered contraband items and rescued vulnerable passengers through coordinated vigilance across various stations and trains under NFR.

On March 2, RPF personnel at Hojai apprehended a person involved in stone pelting on Train No 13176 DN between the Dhalpukhuri and Lanka section, which damaged a window glass though no passenger was injured. In another incident on March 4, RPF staff at Kamakhya arrested an individual for stone pelting on Train No 15946 DN after the train crossed Saraighat Bridge, which resulted in injury to a passenger. Cases under relevant sections of the Railway Act were registered in both incidents.
RPF teams also prevented the illegal transportation of prohibited items. On March 2, RPF and GRP personnel at New Alipurduar recovered 50.900 kg of unclaimed ganja worth approximately Rs 25.45 lakh from Train No 01666 DN. Besides this, several recoveries of unclaimed liquor were made at stations including Guwahati, Rangiya, Katihar, Kishanganj and Barsoi between March 1 and March 4. The seized items were handed over to the concerned Excise authorities for further legal action.
Apart from enforcement activities, RPF personnel also carried out humanitarian initiatives. Between March 2 and March 4, several runaway minors and vulnerable passengers were rescued at stations such as Guwahati, Badarpur, Lumding and Kamakhya and were safely handed over to Childline authorities or their guardians after completing due procedures.
The operations reflect the continued efforts of the RPF under Northeast Frontier Railway to maintain a safe, secure and passenger-friendly railway environment across its jurisdiction.
