Karbi Anglong murder mystery solved: Victim identified

HOWRAGHAT, March 17: The mystery surrounding a body discovered buried in a pond in Karbi Anglong has been resolved. The deceased has been identified as Dilip Nath, a resident of Rongkut Block No 3, who had been missing for several days.

The grim discovery was made on March 15 in a shallow pond located in Chabai Kro village, under the jurisdiction of the Uttar Borbil Police Outpost. The incident sparked intense tension and concern throughout the locality.

Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene to recover the body. Local residents immediately suspected foul play, noting several disturbing details. The body was found buried in the mud of the shallow pond, with the victim’s face tied with a cloth, suggesting a pre-planned and cold-blooded murder.

While locals initially suspected the body belonged to the missing Dilip Nath, formal identification was confirmed following police procedures. The body was transported to Diphu Medical College for a post-mortem examination. During the process, an Aadhaar card discovered in the victim’s pocket confirmed his identity.

Following identification, the body was handed over to grieving family members, who have performed the last rites.

The brutal nature of the crime has left the community in shock. Dilip Nath, a married man is believed to have been the victim of a targeted killing. Local residents are calling for a swift and thorough investigation, urging police to track down the perpetrators and ensure they face strict punishment under the law.
