NAGAON, Aug 31: The state minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Ashok Singhal on Wednesday ceremonially inaugurated three children parks in Nagaon here. Besides, the minister also participated in a slew of programmes during the day, sources said.
The minister inaugurated Mahendra Nath Deka Phukan Park, near Nagaon Baptist Church following which he also ceremonially inaugurated two other parks Sharada Kanta Bordoloi Park and Pranab Baruah Children Park, near Nagaon Nehrubali field. It is worth mentioning that these three parks were renovated and reconstructed for the beautification of the town with an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore under special pursuance of local MLA Rupak Sarma who accompanied the minister during the inaugural ceremony of those three parks on Wednesday.
During his visit, the minister also attended a meeting at the auditorium of Nagaon District Library where he distributed scooters among 406 community cadres of ASRLM for the year 2021-22. He appreciated the cadres for their contributions towards socio-economic development at the grassroots level and urged them to continue to work dedicatedly for the upliftment of society.

The minister also attended a meeting with the concerned officials of the municipality board as well as district administration at the DC’s conference hall in the afternoon. During the meeting, he reviewed the ongoing schemes and other projects being sponsored by the Government and also took stock from the concerned authorities in this regard, sources added.
While addressing the local media, the minister referred to the droughty weather and said the scarcity of water like this year was never seen in the state.
It is happening due to climate change across the globe, the minister said, adding that Food Corporation of India (FCI) has procured 5 lakhs metric tons of rice from the farmers of the state in the current fiscal year.
