DIPHU, Sept 4: The former armed organisations under the banner of Karbi Ex-Revolutionary United Forum (KERUF) observed the first anniversary of the MoS, 2021 here at Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) Memorial Town Hall on Sunday.

Participating in the observation, MP Horensing Bey said, “The signing of the MoS does not stop here. The leaders and members should continue to work together for the full implementation of each and every clause of the accord.”
Bey, who himself was a former leader of the disbanded United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) that signed an MoS with the Central government in 2011 said, “When you were carrying out armed struggle you also lived in the jungles like us. But now you are not in the jungle as you have chosen the path of peace and development.”
The MP said that the educated youths only think of securing a government job. They do not want to go into agriculture and in other fields. For the growth of national GDP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is introducing various schemes on agriculture. He has envisaged one district, one product. Youths have the full energy and they can take up farming and horticulture for self-sustainability.
“We can select which crop can be cultivated by taking on the line of one district, one product. In this way we can increase the GDP growth. We have taken up arms. Now we should take up the green revolution,” the MP said.
Chief executive member (CEM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang said, “There have been three MoUs signed with the Central government. The first one was the MoU signed by Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) in 1995, next was the MoS signed by United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) in 2011 and now the MoS by the six armed organisations. The three MoUs have benefited the people as more departments were transferred to the KAAC and more state and central sponsored schemes are coming. Annual funds allocation was also increased.”
He further said, “With the MoS 2021 the Assam University, Diphu Campus will be upgraded to a full-fledged University, Agriculture college, Veterinary College, Forest College and degree college and all these are for the benefit of the people. Those who are opposed to the MoS 2021 are the ones who do not want development. No one can criticise the MoS 2021 as it is going to benefit everyone.”
The CEM said as per the MoS 2021 KAAC will meet the chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for setting up of a development council for Karbis living in the plain districts.
The KAAC will facilitate the delegation of the six armed organisations to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home minister Amit Shah. As demanded by the leaders of the armed organisations and in the next 2022-23 financial year they will make a budget allocation of Rs 50,000 from KAAC as rehabilitation package to all the cadres, the CEM said.
