In a memorandum submitted to deputy commissioner, West Karbi Anglong, Krishna Boruah, ACS at Hamren on Tuesday said that women of hill districts of West Karbi Anglong are being affected due to continuous increase of prices of various commodities. Many of the rural women have taken loans from micro –finance banks like Bandhan, Arohan, Annapurna, North East Small Finance Bank, etc., but due to above mentioned reasons their businesses have been affected and they have been unable to repay their loans.
The KNCA in their memorandum also mentioned about the high rise of crime against women cases, indicating that rape, molestation, kidnapping and human trafficking are very high in tribal areas.
The memo also stated that medical facilities in West Karbi Anglong are not sufficient in remote areas leading to high rates of mortality among children and mothers.
