MARGHERITA, Sept 30: A legal awareness programme on NALSA (Legal Services to Victims of Acid Attacks) Scheme, 2016, drugs abuse, child trafficking and Right to Education was held on Wednesday at Ketetong Gaon Panchayat office, under 124 No Margherita constituency of Tinsukia district.
The programme was organised by District Legal Service Authority, Tinsukia and Children Friends Club, Margherita in collaboration with New Life Foundation, Borgolai.
The programme was moderated by Pappu Sah, president of Children Friends Club, Margherita where chief guest, Siddhartha Sh Sonowal (ACS), Executive Magistrate Margherita; Shyam Upadhaya, social worker of District Child Protection Unit, Tinsukia; Juri Gogoi Kaur, advocate of Margherita sub divisional judicial court; Bishnu Maya Sharma and Jadav Chetia – social activists of Margherita were present.
Siddhartha Sh Sonowal in his speech said that drug abuse and child trafficking can be eradicated from our society only by bringing consciousness among the people.
“Right to Education Act 2009 which represents consequential legislation envisaged under Article 21-A in the constitution of India to provide free and compulsory education of all children in the age group of six to fourteen years,” said Sonowal.
Shyam Upadhaya said, “Children under the age of 14 who works in factories, hotels, garages and brick kilns are illegal and if anyone found guilty shall be punished under law.
More than 100 people from the nearby area of Ketetong Gaon Panchayat attended the legal awareness programme.
