Kathin Chivar Daan festival celebrated at Margherita Buddha Vihar

Margherita, Oct 22: Kathin Chivar Daan which is the biggest and holiest festival of Buddhist community people all over the world was celebrated on Saturday at Margherita Buddha Vihar with huge pomp and gaiety where more than 1,000 devotees of Tinsukia district attended the programme.

The programme began with hoisting of world Buddhist flag by Acharya Karuna Shastri, general secretary of International Brotherhood Mission, Dibrugarh followed by chanting of Lord Buddha religious mantras. Margherita Buddha Vihar head monk Gyanowada Bhikkhu, Ratnapal Bhikkhu of Ratnakur Buddha Vihar Bisfutia, Tinsukia, Sumedhananda Bhikkhu of Graham Bazaar Buddha Vihar, Dr Pannasara Bhikkhu, Ratna Bhikkhu and four Bhikkhu from other Buddha Vihar attended the Kalpatru Daan, Sangha Daan and Kathin Chivar Daan festival.

Dr Pannasara Bhikkhu in his discourse said that Kathin Chivar Daan is the biggest and holiest festival of Buddhist community people all over the world.

As three months Vasho Vash (raining retreat) has been completed the Kathin Chivar Daan festival therefore is been celebrated, said Dr Pannasara Bhikkhu.

‘Chivar’ – ‘Chi’ means cloth and ‘Var’ means tough which is called tough cloth and according to the rituals as before the sunrise this Chivar by weaving has to be completed by Upasok and Upasika and has to be given to Buddhist monk.

Gyanowada Bhikkhu head monk of Margherita Buddha Vihar said that every year we celebrate Kathin Chivar Daan festival with pomp and gaiety where people irrespective of caste, creed, race, language and religion attend this programme.

Bhikkhu Indashara junior monk of Margherita Buddha Vihar thanked all the people who came at the programme and made it successful.

At evening candles were lighted at each and every corner of Margherita Buddha Vihar premises.
