Guwahati, Nov 26: 3-day long basic training session on Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear materials (CBRN) was conducted from November 24 by National Disaster Management Authority at LGBI airport, Guwahati as a part of handling emergency situation at airport and the State. Guwahati International Airport Limited, GIAL, the airport operator of LGBI airport has hosted it. It is expected that the commencement will enhance the preparedness of airport emergency handling to respond to CBRN emergencies, encompassing threats emanating from the use of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materials at the airport. Several organisation like CISF, State Police, State Disaster Management Authority also participated in the programme. Theoretical sessions and a mock-drill exercise were conducted by veterans and experts in the training.
Apart from imparting the knowledge and skill for handling CBRN emergencies, the training programme also aimed at sharing necessary knowledge for providing the first aid and initial psycho-social support to the victims. Around 50 personnel participated. The programme was inaugurated by lighting of lamp. Joint secretary to the Government of Assam and deputy CEO of ASDMA, regional executive director Sanmukh Jugani, chief airport officer Utpal Baruah, Commandant 1st BN NDRF Sujay Kumar Ghosh, senior consultant (Nuclear & Radiological) NDMA, Chinmoy Nath were present in the occasion.
