Robbery in broad daylight

DIPHU, Dec 20: In broad daylight around 12:30 pm, an amount of Rs 22 lakh was stolen from a private car parked opposite SBI main branch, Lumding road in Diphu town on Tuesday.

People seeing the two thieves running away with the stolen money shouted at them. From the two, one was caught by the public. The person was identified as Sagar Gawala of Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. He was later handed over to the police.

The name of the person, which the money was stolen from, was Raju Rongphar of Ok Kereng, Howraghat under Howraghat police station.

Rongphar while speaking to media persons said he had come to SBI, Diphu main branch to withdraw cash of Rs 22 lakh to be paid to mahilas of Howraghat for their contract works.

When he reached his car and was about to start, he noticed one of the tires to be punctured. He kept the money inside the car and was trying to replace the punctured tyre, when a person came near his car and stole the money. Some of the by-standers noticed the person taking the money from his car.
