BOKAJAN, Jan 6: The inhabitants of Rongdo Engti village in Arnam Langpi area held the ceremony of Mendu Lindu Kecho – a villagers’ get together to acknowledge the leadership of the Rong Asar or village headman and later had a community feast in the residence of the village headman Bali Engti.
The villagers of more than 60 households got together to formally express their desire to continue living under the jurisdiction of the present village headman Engti. On the occasion, the first settlers were felicitated.
The ceremony was attended by Sarkari Gaonbura Monsing Tokbi, village traditional messenger Pherangke Longki Engti, representative of Chingthong or asar Borsing Tokbi and others.
Reportedly, the village was established in 1954. The first settlers Jona Rongpi and Ramson Tokbi were felicitated on the occasion.
Sarkari Gaonbura Tokbi said, “We have been continuing this practice of Mendu Lindu kecho for the last several years to keep the Karbi tradition alive. Likewise, this year too we have held this ceremony here.”
