HOJAI, March 15: A state government act PRANAM (Assam Employees’ Parent Responsibility and Norms for Accountability and Monitoring Act, 2017 (“Assam Employees PRANAM Act”) has come as a boon for a lady residing at Amtola in Hojai.
Recently, with use of the act, an appellant authority has ordered a government employee in Hojai to pay maintenance to his mother.

As per the order, one Jay Prakash Prasad, who is serving as assistant teacher in Sree Narasinghasthan High School(Provincialized) at Amtola in Hojai has been ordered to pay a maintenance of Rs.5000/- on monthly basis to his mother namely Sarada Devi wife of Shioji Prasad.
As per information, the order was passed recently (on March 4 and order copy was sent on March 13 to all competent authorities for information and necessary proceedings.
Notably, an appeal was filed by Sarada Devi as per PRANAM Act, 2017 against her son Jay Prakash Prasad at the office of the commissioner of central Assam division, Nagaon, camp-Guwahati to provide financial support to maintain her livelihood and accordingly both the parties were heard by the appellant authority. After careful consideration of the prayers by the applicant, the appellate authority has passed an order in compliance to PRANAM Act. And, accordingly the son was ordered to pay monthly five thousand rupees from his salary (which not exceeding 10% of his salary) to his mother.
The PRANAM was enacted to ensure that an employee, working under the state government, provides financial assistance to their dependent parents and divyang siblings. The act provides that if any parent or divyang sibling of the government employee is financially neglected, then compensation up to 10 percent, and in exceptional cases up to 15 percent, can be claimed by the parents/divyang siblings from the salary of the offender.
Informing about this order to our correspondent on Wednesday the husband of Sarada Devi, Shioji Prasad said that the PRANAM Act is a blessing for them. He said that people should be made aware on so that the objective with which it has been enacted can be attained fully.
