DIPHU, March 30: The Karbi Anglong Women Justice Forum (KAWJF) has alleged massive irregularities in the distribution of subsidized food grains to BPL families under NFSA 2013 Act in Karbi Anglong.

The KAWJF in a statement said that in Karbi Anglong the subsidised food grains are distributed to BPL families through the Public Distribution System (PDS) under NFSA by the Food & Civil Supplies Department under the administrative control of KAAC.
The Fair Price Shops (FPS) lifts the food grains from LAMPS or wholesale consumers and co-operative societies to be directly distributed to the beneficiaries. It is surprising to note that there is massive corruption and favouritism involved in the distribution of subsidized food grains to the beneficiaries. There are instances where the ruling party favours their party workers in allotment of ration cards, while families of opposition parties are ignored. Such discrimination is seen in Karbi Anglong, the statement said.
The KAWJF in its statement also said that LAMPS officials are involved in selling the food grains to private parties or individuals through black. The recent incident, where members of Deithor LAMPS were caught selling rice to a private party through black is one such incident of corruption.
It is also seen that many poor families are deprived of the benefit for not having ration card, it alleged.
The KAWJF has called upon the concerned authority to look into the matter immediately so that the deserving families avail the facility and also to investigate into the corrupt practices of LAMPS by officials and other members involved, it claimed.
