Heavy Rain Lashes Nilip

KOILAMATI, April 17: Heavy rain accompanied by thunder storms lashed through several areas of Nilip on April 16 in Karbi Anglong district damaging houses and uprooted trees. Villagers said around 11 pm the heavy rain and wind lashed areas like Panjan, Chokihola and Tokolangso.

Several houses were damaged due to hail and wind rendering many families homeless. Uprooted trees have blocked the roads for several hours stopping traffic. Power lines were snapped by falling trees. Betel nut trees and rubber plants in several rubber farms were damaged. Cattle were also affected as trees fell on them. Villagers estimated that about 500 families were affected.

The worst affected areas were Poisa Ingti village, Sam Hanse village, Asot Rongpi village, Rechomili, Bhitor Kalioni, Hirhiri and Sangtilangso. The affected villagers are waiting for relief from the government. They demanded compensation and not one or two tarpaulins.

The affected families have urged chief executive member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang; MLA Dr Numal Momin and Nilip Member of Autonomous Council (MAC), Pobitra Rongpi to visit the affected areas.
