Tezpur University kick starts Yoga Mahotsav

TEZPUR, May 11:
Centre for Yoga and Sports Sciences, Tezpur University in collaboration with National Service Scheme wing of the university has kick started the Yoga Mahotsav 2023 on Wednesday which marks the official beginning of 43-day countdown to International Yoga Day 2023 to be celebrated on June 21, 2023.

The event started with lighting of the lamp by Prof Shambhu Nath Singh, vice chancellor, Tezpur University, and other dignitaries present on the occasion.

Prof Papori Baruah, head, (i/c), Centre for Yoga and Sports Sciences, delivering the welcome speech, said that the Yoga Mahotsav intends to sensitise and motivate all to participate in yoga centric activities to widen the horizons of yoga. She also briefed the number of activities scheduled to be held during these 43-days long fest which will include yogathan, workshop, seminars, yoga exhibition, outreach activities, etc.

Delivering the inaugural speech, Prof Shambhu Nath Singh emphasised on the importance of yoga for physical, mental and psychological well-being.

“Yoga is a precious gift from our ancient traditions, and it is heartening to see the immense interest and participation in this event. We believe that yoga has the potential to bring about a positive transformation in individuals and society as a whole,” Prof Singh said.

During the inaugural event, Nagendra Kumar Jain, guest faculty, Centre for Yoga and Sports Sciences, Tezpur University, Dhirgh Purnanand, assistant sub-inspector, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Salonibari and students of Tezpur University demonstrated various asanas, meditation and art of performing Surya namaskar. A prayer was also performed during the event by the students.
