DIPHU, May 17: The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) celebrated its 37th foundation day with the theme ‘Re-consolidation Day of the Autonomous State Movement” at the ASDC central committee office here. The occasion was jointly held with their frontal organisations, Karbi Students Association and Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong.
As a part of the celebration, a meeting was held with district leaders, constituency leaders, and branch leaders.

Publicity Secretary Daniel Teron, addressing the media, said the ASDC was formed on May 17, 1986, to launch a joint movement consisting of the ASDC, KSA, and KNCA.
“As the autonomous state has been a joint movement, today, while celebrating the foundation day of ASDC, the flags of ASDC, KSA, and KNCA are also hoisted together. To re-energise the autonomous state movement, we have dedicated the day as the “re-consolidation day of the autonomous state movement,” Teron said.
He further said, “Actually, an autonomous state should have been achieved in 1969, but the APHLC leaders at that time, during the negotiation with the government, had betrayed the hill people. History is there for all to see. Even in the biography of Barelong Terang, who was the president of the Karbi Anglong Unit of the All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC), and Basa Engti Kathar, father of the APHLC president, JI Kathar mentions it.”
He said a major outcome of the movement is the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the central government, which has given more powers to the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. Congress, or BJP, has signed the MoU. The APHLC did not sign any agreements.
The joint autonomous state movement of ASDC, KSA, and KNCA will continue until it is achieved, Teron asserted.
The foundation day was celebrated at Dongkamukam, Dolamora, Bornirja, and Bakulia.
