Two-Day INTUC Session Ends

SIVASAGAR, April 28: The 28th Assam state INTUC session held in Sivasagar Yuva Dal on Wednesday and Thursday came to an end. Former MLA and a veteran trade union leader Hiranya Bora hoisted the INTUC flag on Tuesday and retired Labour commissioner Ganesh Kalita IAS inaugurated the Delegate’s Meet. Kalita, in his speech, spoke at length about the role and responsibility of the trade unions. A total of 237 delegates from 28 labour and workers unions participated in the discussions on the crisis faced by the trade unions and adopted a number of resolutions. Harisuj Jamal (president) and Hrishav Kalita (secretary), Assam Chah Karmachari Sangha; Dwijen Lahkar, general secretary, ASTC Employees Association; Ramnath Suri, a labour leader from Gatanga TE;  Punaram Mili, former president, ONGC ST Employees Association and several other workers leaders attended the meeting and delivered a speech on diverse aspect of the trade union movement in  Assam. Bulu Chetia, journalist, released the souvenir ‘Rangpur Shramik Barta’. A 61 member new committee with Hiranya Bora as the president and Harisuj Jamal, Dwijen Lahkar, Achyut Sarma, Rhishov Kalita and Purnakanta Buragohain as secretaries was formed in the meeting. The other members of the 81-member executive committee will be picked up from among those that could not attend the session.
