NAGAON, June 15: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nagaon, conducted a remarkable grand harvest program for Boro paddy using a mini combine harvester at the farmers’ field in Jaramari, Dhing, under the Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART) last Wednesday.
The program commenced with an inaugural speech by Dr Niranjan Deka, the principal scientist and head of KVK, Nagaon. Dr Deka warmly welcomed all the esteemed guests and participants to this unique harvesting program and shed light on its objectives and the advantages of utilising the mini combine harvester. Dr Rohit Namdeo, a consultant from the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), emphasised the goals of various initiatives undertaken under the APART-IRRI project, including the introduction of mechanisation and the benefits derived from using such machinery. The event was graced by Dr PK Bordoloi, principal scientist from AAU-ZRS Shillongani; Mintu Deka, BPM, Batadraba Block, Nagaon; Gauri Sankar Bordoloi, ADO, Baluchar; Ekbal Hussain, principal of BVJV, Jaramari; Abdul Rashid, retired headmaster of Phulaguri ME School, and APART personnel from KVK Nagaon.
More than 100 local farmers, including both men and women representing various blocks of Nagaon district, actively participated in the program, as stated in an official release. Dr Namdeo, along with Priyanka Deka, a project associate from APART, provided guidance and demonstrated the operation of the machinery during the program. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Baharul Islam, as mentioned in the release.
The grand harvest program organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon, showcased the significance of adopting modern agricultural practices and mechanisation techniques. The use of the mini combine harvester not only enhances efficiency but also promotes agricultural productivity, benefiting the farmers in the region.
