NAMSAI, May 20: The All Arunachal Pradesh Workers’ Union (AAPWU) has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh, demanding the immediate cancellation of recent transfer orders of casual/contingency staff from departments including PHED & WS, PWD, and Power.

In a press briefing, AAPWU president Tadar Chai criticised the transfer of workers from areas such as Sangram, Nyapin, Sango, and Phassang without valid justification. He emphasized that these workers face severe hardships, such as lack of accommodation, transportation, and the absence of new projects in the transfer locations.

“Most of these workers are nearing retirement and cannot commute 50-60 km daily. Government guidelines clearly state that casual staff should not be transferred unless under project-based requirements,” said Chai.

The union fears that such decisions disregard the welfare of low-income workers. AAPWU has warned that if their demands are not met, they may initiate democratic protests from the district to the state level.

“We are forming a team to visit Sangram for a ground report and will meet officials and workers. We seek the intervention of CM Pema Khandu, who has always stood for employee welfare,” Chai added.

The union expressed gratitude for the recent salary hike for casual staff but urged the government to uphold the workers’ dignity and livelihoods by canceling unjust transfer orders.
