NAMSAI, Aug 8: The Department of Textile and Handicrafts, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, commemorated the 11th National Handloom Day at Amik Ringya Hall, Tezu, according to an official statement.
The event was graced by Minister of Textile and Handicrafts Nyato Dukam as the chief guest, while Mohesh Chai, advisor to the minister, attended as the guest of honour.
Commissioner of Textile and Handicrafts Mimum Tayeng, along with several dignitaries and officials, also participated.
National Handloom Day, celebrated annually since August 7, 2015, was instituted under the guidance of the Prime Minister to preserve and promote India’s diverse cultural heritage.
The programme in Tezu highlighted the importance of handloom, local crafts, traditional attire, and self-employment opportunities.
The state government has been taking initiatives to promote local culture and empower communities through livelihood generation.
Chai is scheduled to distribute several machines to local women in Tezu in the near future to support weaving and related activities.
Representatives from various tribes across different districts of Arunachal Pradesh showcased their traditional clothing and crafts during the event, underscoring the continuity of their cultural identity.
The celebration aimed to honour the contribution of handloom weavers, promote indigenous craftsmanship, and inspire the younger generation to value the rich textile traditions of the state.
