ITANAGAR, Dec 23: The ASMITA City League Football Tournament among Khelo India Centres (KICs) of Arunachal Pradesh was formally inaugurated on Tuesday at the Football Ground of Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA), Itanagar.
The tournament features participation from 13 Khelo India Centres with a total of 210 athletes and coaches competing in the league. On the opening day, two matches were played. KIC Tawang defeated KIC Miao, Changlang 1–0, while KIC Golden Jubilee School, Pasighat edged past KIC Namsai by the same scoreline.
The opening ceremony was graced by Lokam Sikio, newly elected Corporator of Ward No 1, Itanagar Municipal Corporation, as the chief guest. Other dignitaries present included Mala Lingi, Deputy Director (Sports); Karbia Dodum, Assistant Director (Sports); Likha Vidha, Principal, SLSA and Nada Apa, Sports Officer (HQ).
The Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) deputed Nani Halyi, Head Coach of the State Junior Girls Football Team to scout promising talent during the tournament. Addressing the athletes and coaches, Chief Guest Sikio encouraged young girls to actively participate in sports, particularly football, highlighting women’s growing achievements across various fields as a positive development for the state and nation.
The ASMITA City League Football Tournament will continue until December 27, 2025.
