East Siang DC inspects de-addiction & rehabilitation centres in Pasighat

PASIGHAT, Sept 12: East Siang Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani, along with District Medical Officer Dr Yagling Perme, District Development Officer (ICDS) Mailong Taku, and other members of the District Monitoring Committee, inspected the Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centres (Sudhaar Ghars) in Pasighat to assess the facilities, services, and rehabilitation measures available for recovering inmates, according to an official statement.

The inspection covered counselling support, recreational facilities, nutrition, cleanliness, hygiene, safety, security, human resources, and other parameters in line with the latest standard operating procedures.

During the visit to the government-run Sudhaar Ghar, the DC was briefed by the In-Charge Medical Officer, Dr Oson Borang, that the centre currently operates with a capacity of 10 beds and a staff strength of 24, including a counsellor, psychologist, and yoga therapist.

The recovering inmates at the visited centres were inspired by the DC’s interactions, where she encouraged them to become changemakers and champions in the fight against drug abuse.

She urged them to build a better future by acquiring skills and pursuing higher education and vocational courses.

She assured that the District Administration, through the skill development department and other government agencies, would extend support to help them achieve these goals. The DC’s visit was supported by DMO Dr Yagling Perme, DDICDS Mailong Taku, Inspector D Yomcha representing the Superintendent of Police, and representatives from the Education Department, among others.
