NAMSAI, 26 June: As part of the nationwide observance of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a district-level programme was organised at Namsai Town Club under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner C R Khampa.
The event was attended by Superintendent of Police Sangey Thinley, heads of departments, teachers, representatives of community-based organisations (CBOs), non-governmental organisations (NGOs), women welfare societies (WWS), self-help groups (SHGs), members of student unions ATKSSU and DSU, the Labour Union, recovering addicts and students.

According to an official statement issued by the Namsai District Administration, the observance aimed to raise public awareness about the devastating consequences of drug abuse, while also recognising the importance of community-driven efforts in combating the growing menace.
In his address, DC Khampa made a heartfelt appeal to all present to work collectively towards building a “Clean and Drug-Free Village”.
He underscored the crucial role that young people, educators, civil society organisations and local leaders must play in ensuring a drug-free future for the district.
He further stressed that preventive action, rehabilitation support, and consistent community engagement are key pillars in the fight against drug addiction.
As part of the programme, the Deputy Commissioner handed over appreciation letters to promising youth who have demonstrated leadership in anti-drug advocacy and peer motivation.
In addition, awards and certificates were distributed to 12 students from Namsai Block who were declared winners of the recently held drawing and essay writing competitions under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA).
Similar programmes were simultaneously conducted at the Chowkham and Lekang blocks, where rallies, awareness activities, and signature campaigns were organised.
The campaigns drew enthusiastic participation from students, teachers and community members.
Prizes were also awarded to students in these blocks for their performance in the drawing and essay competitions aimed at spreading awareness about the harms of drug abuse.
