Namsai observes World Environment Day with anti-plastic pledge and tree plantation drive

NAMSAI, June 5: World Environment Day 2025 was observed at the District Secretariat in Namsai on Wednesday with a call to action under the theme “One Nation, One Mission: End Plastic Pollution.” 

According to an official statement, the programme was attended by MLA and Advisor to the Home Minister (RWD, Sports & Youth Affairs) Chau Zingnu Namchoom, along with Deputy Commissioner C R Khampa, Superintendent of Police Sangey Thinley, ZPC Nang Urmila Mancheykhun, ADC, heads of departments, government officials, and Anganwadi workers.

In his address, MLA Namchoom stressed the urgency of environmental conservation and urged citizens to adopt eco-friendly habits, especially by eliminating the use of single-use plastic.

He specifically called on Anganwadi workers to raise awareness in their respective communities about the environmental and health hazards posed by plastic waste.

Emphasizing the importance of cleanliness, he encouraged office bearers across departments to maintain clean and green office premises.

A pledge in line with the theme “One Nation, One Mission: End Plastic Pollution” was administered to all attendees during the event, reinforcing the commitment to sustainable and responsible practices.

In a move aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency, 5G mobile phones procured through the MLA Local Area Development (LAD) fund were distributed to Anganwadi workers for better data entry and reporting on the POSHAN portal.

As part of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, the celebration concluded with a mass tree plantation drive within the District Secretariat premises, adding a tangible dimension to the environmental message of the day.
