NAMSAI, June 10: The 12th day of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA) was marked by a significant programme at Nuranang (RA-III) under Jang Subdivision, Tawang District, focusing on Scientific Yak Husbandry Practices. The event was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Tawang, in collaboration with the ICAR–National Research Centre on Yak (NRC-Yak), Dirang, and various agriculture and allied departments of Tawang.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from yak herders of nearby villages, officials from different departments, and several dignitaries. Mihir Sarkar, Director of NRC on Yak, attended the event as Chief Guest, leading a team of scientists and experts from the institute. Also present were ADC Jang, Hakraso Kri, officials from KVK Tawang, and representatives of agriculture and allied sectors.
In his keynote address, Sarkar emphasized the importance of scientific yak husbandry, particularly in enhancing clean milk production practices. He urged farmers to adopt natural farming techniques to preserve soil health and improve crop productivity, underlining the role of innovation and informed decision-making in achieving long-term agricultural sustainability.
ADC Hakraso Kri, in his address, highlighted the effective utilization of government schemes as a vital tool for improving rural livelihoods and achieving the holistic development of farming communities.
An interactive session provided a platform for farmers to raise questions on livestock management, which were addressed by subject experts. Essential inputs for yak farming were also distributed among the farmers to support and enhance their agricultural practices.
The initiative underscored the ongoing commitment of KVK Tawang and its partner institutions toward empowering local farmers through scientific knowledge dissemination and capacity-building programmes under the VKSA.
