NAHARLAGUN, Aug 10: The Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) recently hosted the second lecture of the APLA@50 Outreach Connect series at its New Academic Building, according to an official statement.
The initiative, which began with a curtain-raiser at Rajiv Gandhi University, marks the Golden Jubilee of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly and aims to promote civic awareness and active citizenship across the state.
The event was attended by Speaker Tesam Pongte, Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, Prof Nabam Nakha Hina of RGU’s Political Science Department, TRIHMS Dean and Principal Dr Shyamal Kumar Bhattacharya, and Assembly joint secretary Khangshung Jugli.
The programme began with the National Anthem, followed by Dr Bhattacharya’s welcome address highlighting the need to engage youth in understanding the constitutional framework.
Deputy speaker Nyigyor said the core aim was to connect with students and young citizens, instilling in them a sense of duty alongside their rights.
In his keynote address, Prof Hina said democracy in India has ancient roots and stressed that “no right is absolute” as duties go hand-in-hand with rights.
He called on youth to play a vital role in upholding democratic values.
Chief guest Pongte recounted India’s democratic journey and the role of the Constitution in enabling the country to stand tall globally.
He urged young doctors to serve across Arunachal Pradesh and consider joining administrative services to contribute as medical practitioners.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Jugli, who lauded the collaboration between TRIHMS and RGU and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to engaging with youth through such programmes.
