ITANAGAR, Aug 26: Arunachal Pradesh Urban Affairs Minister Balo Raja on Tuesday joined a high-level virtual meeting chaired by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar to discuss the rollout of Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2025, the annual flagship campaign promoting cleanliness and sanitation in urban areas.
According to an official statement, Urban Affairs Commissioner Vivek Pandey and senior officers of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) also participated in the meeting.
During the deliberations, the operational guidelines for Swachh Shehar Jodi were formally released, marking a key step in the Centre’s drive to strengthen urban sanitation and waste management.
Officials described the guidelines as a roadmap for cities to adopt best practices and build stronger collaboration between urban local bodies and citizens in achieving cleanliness goals.
The Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign will be launched on September 17 and will culminate on October 2, to be observed as Swachhata Hi Diwas.
This year’s programme will broadly focus on three major elements.
The first is the transformation of Cleanliness Target Units, which will include identification and timebound beautification of blackspots to reclaim public spaces.
The second is the Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs, under which single-window camps will be organised to provide preventive health check-ups and welfare support to sanitation workers.
The third is the Clean Green Utsav, aimed at promoting eco-friendly festivals, creating awareness about sustainable practices, and organising plantation drives to strengthen the green cover in urban areas.
The meeting also reviewed strategies for identifying blackspots and Cleanliness Target Units, enhancing community participation, and promoting sustainable waste management.
Emphasis was laid on creating garbage-free cities and ensuring the safety, dignity, and welfare of sanitation workers.
The official statement further noted that the release of Swachh Shehar Jodi guidelines marks a milestone in the government’s cleanliness campaign by encouraging innovative practices and active public participation to achieve visible and sustainable transformation of urban spaces.
