Electricity distribution has seen significant improvement in Barak Valley: APDCL

SILCHAR, July 29: “Electricity distribution has improved a lot in the last 8 years. Earlier, there would be loadshedding of 8-10 hours daily, but now there’s constant power availability for 24 hours,” claimed the APDCL officials of state distribution in the programme organised under ‘Ujjwal Bharat, Ujjwal Bhavishya’ at Saiyadpur on Thursday.
The credit for this goes to Deen dayal Upadhyay Grameen Bijli Yojana, as per the officials.
Speaking at the event, district development commissioner, Rajiv Roy said, “If electricity is produced in sufficient quantity, then availability would not be an issue and it should be taken care so that electricity is not wasted in any way. To save electricity, households and offices should turn off any unnecessary machines or gadgets. If these practices are continued, then India would be self-reliant in the field of electricity by 2047.”
Khalil Uddin Mazumder, MLA, Katigorah, Danile Engleng, GM, APDCL Silchar zone, Supriya Paul, DGM, Powergrid and Biswajit Das, CEO, Cachar Electrical Circle, also stressed upon solar power generation, citing the fact that Assam is yet to be self-reliant in the sector. Points were also deliberated on how to reduce pollution, and the steps the Government is taking to ensure power connectivity to the general public.
Meanwhile, the power distribution company organised another program at Sonai Bharakhai, Baritila under Silcoorie grant of Cachar district on Friday.
In the event, the officials of APDCL urged people to save electricity and highlighted the technical development of renewable energy and progress of the power grid across the country and various plans for implementation of the Zero Carbon Mission and Green Hydrogen Mission.
