Guwahati, October 29: The Assam Cabinet has approved an additional ₹2205.75 crore for Phase II of the Climate Resilient Brahmaputra Integrated Flood and Riverbank Erosion Risk Management Project, aimed at strengthening defences across flood-prone districts.
The second phase will include 76 km of anti-erosion works, 33 km of embankment construction, and 17.72 km of pro-siltation works across 13 districts. The project focuses on protecting lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure from the recurring floods of the Brahmaputra.

The cabinet also sanctioned ₹25,000 grants for 2,068 Raas Committees and ₹50,000 each for 67 committees in Majuli to support the Raas Mahotsav, alongside a revised estimate of ₹249 crore for the Lachit Moidam Memorial and Cultural Complex in Jorhat.
Additionally, amendments to the Assam Land Policy 2019 were approved, allowing settlement of up to 50 bighas of hereditary land for the Moran and Matak communities, similar to provisions for tribal groups under Mission Basundhara 2.0.
The major flood resilience investment is expected to bring much-needed relief and protection to thousands living along the Brahmaputra’s banks.
